Product Description
Though The 11th Hour tried to build on The 7th Guest's plot, character development and ingenious puzzles, it failed. Rather than focusing on solving puzzles, the developers implemented an inane exploration element that had the protagonist Carl Denning locating bottle caps and assorted items via riddles. When the occasional puzzle had to be solved, it was either illogical AI fare or a rip-your-hair-out-throw-the-keyboard-across-the-room puzzle that was almost impossible to solve and made little to no sense
Fast-forward seven decades; reporter Robin Morales is assigned to enter the Stauf Mansion. While on assignment, she disappears, and her main squeeze Carl must save the day. While the bland nature of the plot was difficult to ignore, the full-motion video had been improved over the original, making the overall visual flair quite impressive. However, graphics do not make the game. The 11th Hour also implemented a Game Book containing clues and full-motion video sequences that were collected once puzzles were solved, or when one of the items was found.
With puzzles best suited for rocket scientists, derivative exploration elements and a bland plot, The 11th Hour was a miserable follow-up to The 7th Guest. ~ Matthew House, All Game Guide
